Spotlight on PARTICOLARE: A Unique Exhibition at Vienna's Kursalon

Created exclusively for the D'ORO D'ART series by D'ORO Collection, this piece reflects our commitment to bringing collectible books to the world: Arabesque Special Limited Edition is a powerful exploration of visual culture, seamlessly blending elements of music and time.
From September 11 to 15, 2024, Vienna's Kursalon hosted PARTICOLARE– a curated contemporary art salon that presented a selection of artworks and performances. The program was a bold exploration and a multifaceted look at temporality and movement through the creations of contemporary artists and performers.
PARTICOLARE was a collectible exhibition developed and curated by a group of practitioners within the arts ecosystem. The collective aimed to test new exhibition formats, new ways to engage the audience, and new ways to "be" in an exhibition space. PARTICOLARE offered art audiences and collectors an event that was somewhere between an exhibition and an art salon, curated, open-plan, immersive, and on a human scale.

Arabesque Special Limited Edition consists of a single-channel video in vertical book format. In the video, sound and image are integrated, and together retrace the love and artistic relationship of Robert and Clara Schumann. Birnbaum brought together selections from films of performances of Robert Schumann’s Arabesque Opus 18 and from films of Clara Schumann’s Romanze 1, Opus 11. She juxtaposed these clips with still images made from footage of the 1947 film about the Schumanns, Song of Love, which features only Robert Schumann’s Arabesque Opus 18. Birnbaum’s Arabesque delicately reflects on the troubled love relationship of Robert and Clara Schumann, a love relationship closely linked to music, as they are both pianists. It is the result of the creative mind of Birnbaum, but also of the work of masterful artisans with unique abilities, capable of innovating in full respect of the traditions that have been handed down for generations.
