The Golden Waves is the latest publication by D’ORO Collection: a tribute to the untamed energy of the sea in its most spectacular motion, seen through the lens of some of the world’s most celebrated wave photographers. Seven years of shared vision and dedication have culminated in this work of gazes and reflections, honouring the titanic nature of the oceanic world.

A visual ode to the sea’s impetuous nature, the book explores the origin, rhythm and life of waves across some of the planet’s most emblematic marine regions. The journey begins on the shores of Japan and unfolds in seven extraordinary chapters that span the globe – from Hawaii to the wind-lashed coasts of Iceland, from the Atlantic Arc to the Mediterranean, and on to the drifting horizons of South Africa and Australia.

Breathtaking and vertiginous, the images—signed by thirty of the leading names in wave photography—capture the elusive breath of the ocean’s living waters. Alongside the visual power of these photographs, the contributions of oceanographers Alessandro Benedetti and Sandro Carniel add scientific depth and emotional insight, revealing the layered complexity of seas and oceans.

Available in two editions—English and bilingual (Italian/English)—both printed in a numbered run of 99 copies, The Golden Waves is a rare editorial creation and a true expression of Italian artisanal excellence, that offers a deep dive into the movement of waves.

Each copy is unique, handcrafted in Rome according to the ancient traditions of bookbinding. The cover sculpture, made of 24-karat gold applied to hand-hammered copper and shaped from an original bronze model, bears a wave impressed upon its surface—a silent keeper of the sea’s memory. Inside, moiré silk endpapers and pages printed on artisanal cotton paper are enriched with delicate 24-karat gold detailing, illuminating the book with glimmers of light. The illuminated initials—gilded in gold and painted in vermilion red and in the purest blue, obtained from powdered lapis lazuli—are hand-painted by Italian artist Maurizio Tazzuti, amplifying the visual resonance of the narrative.

Both a collector’s piece and a vessel of knowledge, The Golden Waves transforms the reader into a traveller, immersed in the strength and mystery of the sea.
Its first unveiling will take place in Lisbon: Portugal – whose shores are among the book’s most iconic locations – provides the natural stage for its launch. The official presentation will be held on 25 June at the Centro de Congressos de Lisboa, during GBB Venture.
