A Tribute to the Equestrian World

The Golden Horses Volume published by D’ORO Collection in 2015 is a tribute to the equestrian world and explores the relationship between these wonderful animals and man on account of poems and legends.

If there is an animal that has always embodied a close relationship between mankind and nature, an almost mystical and ancestral symbiosis, that animal is certainly the horse. Even in prehistoric times primitive people drew stylized signs representing horses on the walls of caves. Over the years, these animals have always been protagonists in history and literature, close to the pens of great writers and the deeds of emperors and kings. That is how the idea of dedicating a Volume to the horse and its relationship with mankind throughout history came about.

The Golden Horses Volume published by D’ORO Collection is entirely handmade using artisan paper with 220 gram thickness. Each page is stitched by master craftsmen using wooden frames of the type used in the Middle Ages. The covers of The Golden Horses are made of red leather lined with silk where gilded galloping horse figures are impressed. Two bronze reliefs, gilded by immersion into a 24 Kt gold bath, form the front and back covers.

A luxury book of unique value, shape and contents – created by merging the ancient bookbinding techniques with the works of great artists of everlasting renown.

The Golden Horses is about the various breeds from a scientific, historical, legendary and artistic point of view.

A horse is contextualized in a certain era following the original documentation of its owner. For example, we have an excerpt from Napoleon's diary explaining why he chose an Arabian horse as his best horse. It’s because it was short, agile, very fast and brave. From his diary we also know that he loved his war horse more than his generals because, he says, it was tireless and always made him arrive before anyone else.

The Golden Horses is about the various breeds from a scientific, historical, legendary and artistic point of view.

In The Golden Horses, the horses are ordered and presented according to geographic areas, starting from Africa, where this animal saw its beginnings, continuing along the flow of its original migration.

The covers of The Golden Horses are gilded bas-reliefs: the front cover represents a horse while the back cover has three. Actually, if we put the two covers side by side, we discover that there are 4 horses competing against each other: an Arabian horse, the Akhal Teke, the American Mustang and the Viennese Lipizzaner. In short, four historical horses competing in a game where you cannot establish who is first.
